This garden area is part of a Flat in a landmark Art Deco Melbourne building. The complex is built on a steep site and the flat sits below ground level. The garden is viewed from below from the inside of the Flat so the planting is designed to allow light while maintaining privacy and to be looked at from ground level. Old Privet plants form a loose hedge against the walls and Monstera deliciosa were positioned amongst them. Pots were used to raise plants in strategic places for privacy, The pots were selected to merge with the aged render of the building. Plant selection was based on compatibility with the style of the building and surrounds, and their ability to survive in a shady, dry, hard to access environment.
