The gardens selected for inclusion in the Gallery reflect the varying nature of the gardens undertaken by Jane Finch Gardens. Some are large gardens that are designed and/or maintained by Jane Finch Gardens. Others are small inner city gardens, courtyards and balcony gardens.
Some gardens have been maintained for years and have gradually been replanted over those years. .The Richmond garden is an example of this. Over the course of the last 15 years the garden has been maintained on a regular basis, and redesigned in response to events such as the loss of major trees due to weather and age, and evolution in the house and the lifestyle of the clients. The photos in the Gallery show the latest design in relatively early stages.
The Kew mid C20th garden is an example of a garden design that was effected over the course of several years in accordance with the clients budget.
The Camberwell garden has been designed and then maintained as it grew over the course of several years. The formal garden in Kew is maintained and has been replanted with flowering and other plants as required.
Some of the gardens have been designed in accordance with the clients brief that they be minimal maintenance. The small gardens in Port Melbourne and Brunswick are examples of this type of work.
Some of the gardens and balconies have been designed, installed and then left to clients to manage.
Sometimes an existing feature dictates the style of the garden. The cottage style front garden in Brunswick is based around a magnificent Magnolia soulangeana in the front garden.
The modern East Melbourne apartment balcony is the home of a client who moved from a larger garden and wanted a similar sort of environment around him.
In the Alphington garden the layout had been defined by the clients some years ago but plant selections and insufficient maintenance meant that the garden had failed to thrive.
